Sobering Aquarium Hobby Statistics;  what’s the solution?

These summarized figures deducted from the American Pet Products Manufacturers Assocation’s 2008 survey representing 10 years of research (1996-2006) show a very compelling picture of the present state of the Aquarium Hobby and are maybe a timely indication for change!

In this survey, 4 drawbacks & difficulties mentioned by many (43%) fresh-water and marine hobbyists combined stood out and could be considered as major obstacles to progress and causes for concern:

1) 62% objected to gravel cleaning chores,

2) 44% had problems keeping their water clear,

3) 44% could not avoid noxious algae infestations,

4) 22% were suffering from abnormal fish mortality.

Other drawbacks mentioned were: high cost of equipment (25%), cost of food (10%), equipment failure (12%), holiday care (26%), lack of advice or knowledge (5%), too much responsibility (4%).

Only 11% of all hobbyists surveyed did not attributed any drawbacks to their beloved hobby; meaning that an incredible 89% did have some problems!

No wonder the Aquarium Industry is stagnating; it’s a miracle that the Hobby is still surviving despite such a dismal approval rate, showing that whatever the problems, the American Public likes to keep fish and will continue to do so.

To take advantage of this incredible affinity, there is no doubt that if the Aquarium Industry could eliminate some or most of the drawbacks cited here, the approval rate could finally change for the better and the number of hobbyists would increase drastically for the benefit of everybody concerned.

It is also very obvious that the cause of those 4 major drawbacks is directly related to aquarium maintenance problems created by inefficient filters which do not adequately address the continuous pollution coming from fish-waste. The solution is therefore crystal clear, solve this question and everybody in the Hobby or Industry will be happy again.

The US Patent Office data base shows that many inventors have tried and obviously failed as no new filter is doing anything different from all the others before, until the AquaGenie power filter found an easy and fast way to evacuate the fish waste from the system and hereby finally eliminates once and for all the source of the pollution in aquariums.

By repeatedly flushing out all debris captured by the filter, the AquaGenie system reduces significantly the production of nitrates and other toxins coming from the bio-filter and practically cancels out the accumulation of phosphates, delivering clear water with optimal environmental conditions for long-living healthy fish. Plus when the AquaGenie filter is used with coarse sand on the tank floor instead of gravel, those endless gravel vacuum cleaning chores are also eliminated. If I am not mistaken this takes care of those 4 nasty drawbacks listed in the APPMA survey as having plagued the Aquarium Hobby since at least 1996.

With more time and your support we’ll even have solutions to significantly reduce the other drawbacks as well, just imagine what will happen then!
