The AquaGenie filter system was born after 8 years of research combining Phil Dor aquaculture and aquarium experiences, plus Melissa Dor lateral thinking. Aqua Decors (now AquaGenie Australia Pty Ltd) was a small family business located in Armadale, Perth Western Australia; started by Phil in 2000 and then joined by his daughter Melissa and later his son Daniel. In the past they have specialized in designing and manufacturing display aquariums for private and commercial entities, and also specialty wall mounted aquariums. As well as comprehensive aquarium maintenance services for hire and aquaculture consultancy services for shellfish and coral farming.

This has all been put on hold from the program since Phil has retired in 2005 to concentrate on the development and marketing of his new filter system and Melissa cannot take over those aspects of the business as of yet.

Phil has 35 years of professional experience in these fields, from his first pet-shop in New-Caledonia in 1971 to managing some major aquaculture projects in Singapore (edible oysters & mussels in the late seventies), Brunei (mussels in the eighties) and North Queensland (giant clams, pearl oysters, P.L. prawns and table fish in the late eighties & early nineties).

Phil designed his filters over a period of 12 years starting in Cairns in 1996, out of frustration generated by all those inefficient aquarium filters on the market today that resulted in very poor hobbyists maintenance practices and unacceptable high financial and live-stock losses.

After seeing a need for an easy way to clean aquarium filters, he invented the Easy-Flush built in filter system in1998 (the predecessor of the AquaGenie) and patented it in Australia and the US. The first real AquaGenie was developed on the same idea at the Easy-Flush and also air-driven but no longer needed to be built in and could be bought in a box and added to any existing aquarium.

The AquaGenie System is the final product in the development line. The HOB is the first model of powered Instant Reverse Flush (I.R.F.) filters with many more future models to come for every possible application in aquariums, fish ponds and even swimming pools or aquaculture tanks. The AquaGenie HOB filter was specially produced for the US market after analyzing product reviews showing what the US hobbyist wants or doesn’t like; it is therefore extremely appealing to the modern aquarist because of it’s enhanced efficiency and the so obvious super easy self-cleaning capabilities.

Evacuating the waste collected by an aquarium filter has been the goal of many innovative products, but no other system has managed to come up with such a comprehensive and easy solution as the AquaGenie system does, which makes the AquaGenie clearly the latest and final evolutionary step in fish-care.
